Thought I'd share with you a video I made for the U@UTS Summer School that I'm teaching at. We had an orientation for it the other day and I made this video as an intro to the fashion workshops.
The first few clips are from the 2010 UTS Grad show, and the others are all related to the 'transformation' theme of the summer school. Enjoy!
Untitled from Ali Kenworthy on Vimeo.
Some of the clips used are:
ISSEY MIYAKE - Animation by Euphrates
Hussein Chalayan - Transformer Dress
Hussein Chalayan - Autum/Winter 2000
Animorfos

Movie Inspiration: Quadrophenia
Quadrophenia, based on The Who's album of the same name, is about the conflicts between mods and rockers in the mid-sixties. It's one of my favourite movies (probably the only one of my favourites that doesn't end with a song, dance and/or wedding - yes, I'm that type of movie fan). There's some nice fashion in it, as well as some great dancing mod scenes - so I had to make some more gifs!

Dance like a Mod
I've been playing around with making some gifs in Photoshop because I found all these great photos of mods dancing in Richard Barnes 1979 book, 'Mods!'

Some work better than others...
I used this tutorial to figure out how to make the gifs, it's very easy! The hard part is getting them into a blogger post, and for that I used this tutorial.

In Gear
Can't remember exactly how I came across this at first but this video pretty much sums up my entire dissertation. It's a short item for a newsreel about shopping in London, produced in 1967.
I love that it goes in to so many shops, I've been having trouble finding photos of the interiors of the boutiques.
I took some screenshots but they're very blurry.

My favourite part of the video is where this guy finishes serving a customer, walks away...
...and starts to DANCE!
Suddenly they're in a dance club?

This girl with the blue dress, orange tights and silver shoes is amazing. I want to be her...
